Back in motion

A few things are back in motion lately. With a bit more time on my hands, I’ve been digging back into music production. Some compelling YouTube rabbit holes have actually sparked the energy to get things operational again. Right now I’m working on both an edit and an original. It’s early stages, but the horizon finally feels like it’s got some light on it.

On the DJ side, I’ve picked up gigs with Glitch and All My Friends. Two very different events, each with their own niche take on an open-format play style. It’s nice to test myself in different directions depending on the crowd – posters and dates are on the way! Meanwhile, I’ve been fleshing out finer details for the website, adding in space for DJ lessons and private bookings (yes, weddings included). A little nerve-wracking, but also the kind of work that makes things feel more “real.” Though let’s be honest, nothing feels more real than realising you’ve accidentally agreed to be responsible for someone’s first dance.

Gear-wise, I’ve been circling the Opus Quad for what feels like forever now. The appeal is obvious: external source flexibility, strong audio quality, and the possibility to weave more vinyl into my sets. I’m hoping it’ll streamline prep, tighten my mixes, and basically make performance readiness less of a scramble. Bonus: it’ll pull its weight for the weddings I’ve got coming up too. DJs know this dance, the internal debate over whether you really need the new piece of kit, or just like the idea of it sitting in your studio staring back at you. Half the time I think the gear is auditioning me, not the other way around.

So what’s this post? Honestly, just a handful of rambled updates. But maybe that’s worth sharing too. A reminder that things move in cycles: gigs, gear obsessions, half-finished edits, and websites that are never quite done. I’ll break these updates out into a series soon: music in progress, set prep, maybe even some behind-the-scenes of the DJ lessons once they’re running.

For now, let’s just call this the “back in motion” checkpoint. It feels good to be here. And if nothing else, at least the Opus Quad still isn’t in my cart.
